October 2017 Club of the Month

By Sara Werner October 26, 2017

This month we would like to congratulate the County Liners 4-H Club for being awarded the Nebraska 4-H Club of the Month for October 2017. This Club from Meadow Grove, in Antelope County, has truly made a difference in its community. The club is dedicated to building strong citizenship and teamwork through various activities.

The County Liners 4’H Club currently has over 30 members age 5-18 years old and have helped Antelope County 4-H grow considerably in the last four years. There was only one member left in this club in 2013. When a group of kids decided they wanted to become more involved in 4-H, a vote was taken to continue the tradition of County Liner excellence in Antelope County as opposed to starting a new Club.

The County Liners host meetings multiple times a year and vote on officers annually promoting the involvement of multiple club members. Since 2013, the County Liners have adopted 2 miles of highway 275, hold meetings approximately 8 times per year, hosted multiple project dates (quilting, welding, shooting sports, cookie baking, photography, and poultry information), held the Herdsmanship award for large or small breeds during the Antelope County Fair each year and donated to a boy and girl on the Angel Tree at Christmas. The club also started an annual horse show at the Antelope County fairgrounds in 2016, assisted with community fund-raising for families in need, donated award/trophy money to the County Fair board, produced multiple members and actively participate in the Antelope County Fair Committee and participated in Horsebowl.

Additionally, one County Liners member received the Outstanding Boy of the Year for his hard work. The club was awarded Club of the Year for Antelope County in 2015. This Club continues to look for ways to be involved in the community and promote 4-H. The members have enjoyed learning about 4-H, their motto, beliefs and the promotion of youth. They look forward to continuing to be active in Antelope County.

The Nebraska 4-H Foundation provides the 4-H Club of the Month program to all Nebraska 4-H clubs throughout the state.  Clubs can nominate themselves by telling why their club should be chosen as Club of the Month.  A different club will be chosen each month and will be awarded with a certificate and $50 cash card.  For more information go to the Nebraska 4-H Foundation website at https://ne4hfoundation.org/recognition or e-mail ne4hclubofthemonth@gmail.com.
