Scholarships

  Instructions for Application for Scholarships  

 

All Scholarship applications must be received by March 2, 2010 to 4HFoundation@unl.edu

Nebraska 4-H Foundation, 6940 O St   Ste 210  Lincoln NE 68510. Scholarship availability may change at any time without prior notice.

 

A 4-H participant submitting an application must list those scholarships for which he/she feels qualified. Only ONE application is required, even though you may be applying for more than one scholarship.  Only one application is required whether you are emailing or mailing the application.  

 

4-H youth may want to visit with the Extension Office in their county and the financial aid office at the college of their choice. There may be other grants, scholarships, or low-interest loans for which they would be eligible.

Instructions for All Scholarships

 

Please include:

1.  4-H Scholarship General Information Form (1 page allowed)

           

2. 4-H Scholarship General Application Form. Only ONE application is required, even though you may be applying for more than one scholarship.  Only one application is required whether you are emailing or mailing the application.  

. The  4-H Scholarship General Application Form consists of the following sections: 

Section A:  Academic Information (1 page allowed)

Section B:  Career Information (1 page allowed for Sections B and C combined)

Section C:  Most Significant 4-H Project/Activity Experience (not required for Horse Scholarships) (1 page allowed for Sections B and C combined)

Section  D C:  Horse Project-Related Scholarships (required only for Grand Island Saddle Club and/or R.B. Warren Scholarship)

 

3. A transcript of the most current grades signed by a school administrator. Please include details of ACT or SAT test scores. (No restriction on number of pages).  The transcript can be mailed or e-mailed. 

 

Use of information

 

The information submitted in this application is confidential.  Personal information about scholarship winners may be used in local publicity and press releases.

 

 

Selection process

 

Selection will be based on the following factors: 4-H background, leadership abilities, interest and desire for further education, and scholastic achievements. Scholarships will be awarded to the candidates whose applications earn the highest overall scores from the judges.

Eligibility Requirements for All 4-H Scholarships

 

General Eligibility for Applicants

 

1.  Must be a current high school senior, graduating in Spring of the current year and attending college in the Fall of the current year (Exception: Grand Island Horse Scholarship applicants may apply after their sophomore year in high school).

 

2.  Must have completed one (1) year of 4-H and be current 4-H member unless otherwise stated in ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS for individual scholarships.

 

3.  Must be in good scholastic standing (minimum of C average =2.0.)

 

 

Scholarships will be awarded after the successful completion of the first college semester. Recipient must provide a copy of first semester grades to the Nebraska 4-H Foundation before scholarship is issued.

 

 

Donna Wampler Endowed Scholarship Eligibility Requirements (Due March 2)

One scholarship ($200-500, depending on interest earned during the year)

 

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Must be planning to attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and be active 4-H member in one of the following counties: Adams, Buffalo, Clay, Greeley, Hall, Hamilton, Howard, Kearney, Merrick, Nance, Sherman, or York. 

 

 

 

Orscheln Industries Foundation Scholarship Eligibility Requirements

Four scholarships ($1000 each)

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Must be planning to attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Institute of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. Must be a U.S. citizen and a resident of Nebraska. Must be entering college as a freshman. Preference will be given to applicants who are residents of Adams, Buffalo, Custer, Dawson, Gage, Hall, Jefferson, Johnson, Lancaster, Lincoln, Nemaha, Otoe, Phelps, Red Willow, Richardson, Saline, Seward, Valley, or York Counties (these counties have Orscheln Farm and Home Stores). Residents of counties bordering these Nebraska counties will be considered. Scholarship is available during freshman year. Must have been members of 4-H during 4 years prior to graduating from high school. Applicants must exhibit outstanding leadership potential, possess good character/moral traits, be self-motivated and must have been recognized for good academic performance during their 4 years of high school.  Applicants must have a keen interest in the family farm and its importance to our society.   


Horse Scholarship - Grand Island Saddle Club Eligibility Requirements (Due March 2)

Four Scholarships ($1000 each)

 

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Currently enrolled in and active in the 4-H horse program.

 

Scholarship is to be awarded at the end of the first semester completed (assuming successful) in the University of Nebraska system. This would normally be the first semester after graduation from high school. An extension will be approved for up to 2 years, to facilitate completion of community college or other college course work. (This is to assist applicants who need/wish to stay closer to home, and may be entering the 2+2 program).

 

 

SELECTION: Finalists will be interviewed by a committee during the State 4-H Horse Exposition   in Grand Island, with scholarship winner(s) announced during the event.

 

    Applicants may first apply the year completing their sophomore year in High School.

 

Applicants may apply each year through completion of sophomore year in College, an associate degree, or successful obtainment of the Grand Island Saddle Club Scholarship, whichever comes first. (The scholarship may be earned a single time.)

 

May apply for use with any major offered within the University of Nebraska System. Preference will be given to those within the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, and then to those in other colleges at UNL.

 

 

 

R. B. Warren 4-H Horse Educational Scholarship Eligibility Requirements (Due March 2)

 One Scholarship ($500)

 

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Currently enrolled in and active in the 4-H horse program. Must attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.

 

SELECTION: Qualifying applicants will be interviewed by a committee during the State  4-H Horse Exposition in Grand Island, with scholarship winner(s) announced during the event.

Martha and Don Romeo Scholarship

The Nebraska Association of Fair Managers will award a $500 scholarship to one qualifying 4-H male and a $500 scholarship to one qualifying 4-H female who are graduating seniors in the State of Nebraska and who plan to continue with post high school education.  The scholarship will be awarded at the annual NAFM convention in January.
